Use MaiToken as the API backend in OpenClaw

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure:

  1. OpenClaw is installed

    Download and install OpenClaw. Once installed, you can run the openclaw command in your terminal.

  2. You have a MaiToken API key

    Sign in to the MaiToken Console to get your API key (it starts with sk-).

Tip: If you don't have a MaiToken account yet, sign up at MaiToken first and get your API key.

Configuration Steps

Run the following command in your terminal to launch the setup wizard:

openclaw onboard

Follow the prompts to fill in the following information in order:

Step 1: Choose the model/auth provider

Model/auth provider:

Use the arrow keys to select Custom Provider, then press Enter to confirm.

Step 2: Enter the API Base URL

API Base URL:

Enter the following address:

https://api.maitoken.com/v1

Step 3: Enter the API Key

API Key:

Paste the API key (sk-xxxxxxxxxxxx) you got from the MaiToken Console.

Step 4: Choose endpoint compatibility

Endpoint compatibility:

Use the arrow keys to select OpenAI-compatible, then press Enter to confirm.

Step 5: Enter the Model ID

Model ID:

Enter the model ID you want to use, for example:

Setup Complete

Once you've completed the steps above, OpenClaw will use MaiToken as its backend service. You can start using the AI chat features right away, and all requests will be routed through MaiToken to the corresponding models.

FAQ

Authentication failed?

  • Confirm the API Key is correct and starts with sk-
  • Check that the key is valid in the MaiToken Console
  • Make sure your account balance is sufficient

Model unavailable?

  • Confirm the API Base URL is set to https://api.maitoken.com/v1 (including the /v1 suffix)
  • Confirm you selected OpenAI-compatible for Endpoint compatibility
  • Check that the Model ID is spelled correctly
